For parents of children learning to read using Making Great Readers in a classroom setting, it’s very beneficial for parents to understand the techniques. This creates consistency between school and home and gives the student a greater chance of success.
The Making Great Readers program includes Home Connection sheets, which are a copy of the Picture Sound Cards. Parents who wish to reinforce the classroom learning can glue these sheets onto index cards to produce an inexpensive set of picture sound cards (Parents may also purchase materials to use at home, contact us for more details).
While the Making Great Readers program is primarily used in a classroom setting, parents may also implement the program entirely at home. When this is done, it’s very important for parents to understand the program, how to use the cards and materials, and the difference between phonemes and letter names.
